“We are learning the Bible and meeting the Saviour”

Regular readers may remember that in March of 2019, we reconnected with an old friend involved in new work.

Dr. Daryl Busby is the former President of Canadian Baptist Seminary and now invests his time as a chaplain in a senior’s facility in British Columbia in Canada. He has a particular interest in the research that is being done on spiritual formation for people with cognitive disabilities.Worldwide, nearly 46 million people have Alzheimer’s or related dementia. Alzheimer’s and other dementias are the top cause of disabilities in later life. While this disease is becoming a growing problem in North America, some people have taken on the care of these vulnerable persons in the name of Christ. Daryl is one of those people. Daryl contacted CSM because he believed that our books could prove to be a useful tool for the people he was caring for.

In March, we sent Daryl multiple copies of Simple Stories. Simple Stories is a collection of 32 stories from the Bible. Written using an English vocabulary of fewer than 1,400 words, the book tells the story of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation – the beginning to the new beginning. He began using the books in April. Here is a portion of the note he sent us in June.

Thanks for the generous supply of books. I have been using it with some residents with somewhat higher cognitive ability, but who often have a minimal understanding of the Biblical story. The questions are great and allow them to engage at various levels. The stories themselves trigger us to ask even more questions. I have been copying the content into a word document and increasing the font size so we can see to read.

Thanks for the work and passion in this regard. We are learning the Bible AND meeting the Savior.
