The Travel Guide: A Textbook in Togo
Our work at Clear and Simple Media is a bit like that of the farmer in the Parable of the Sower. He sowed the seed broadly and indiscriminately. He trusted that the seed would find good soil and produce fruit. But he would not know the results until the harvest came.
So far, we have distributed more than half a million books in more than 40 languages around the world. The vast majority of the time, we do not hear the stories of the fruit the “seed” is producing. But, occasionally, we do.
This past week, we received an update from Togo, West Africa. There, ABWE missionary Andrew Ward, used our book, Guide Biblique, (Travel Guide to the Bible in French) as a textbook for a weeklong Old Testament Survey Class. The five students were from the Ewe and Lamba people groups. One is a Sunday school teacher. One is a church planter. One is a hospital chaplain. The two other are young men interested in future ministry. Andrew writes:
The Travel Guide in French was very helpful to our OT survey class. I thought it worked very well for that class since we couldn’t go in-depth into every book of the OT during one week of lectures. I assigned the Travel Guide as the required reading for the course so they could see an overview of each book and how they fit together in the redemptive plan. It served us well with its basic level of French because we have some guys with only a 6th grade level of education in our institute classes. I knew that I could assign it as outside reading, and they would be able to understand it without having to use classroom time to explain it.
We are thankful that the book was a helpful to students with varying levels of education. We look forward to hearing more updates as the book continues to be used in West Africa to teach and train new and future pastors in that part of the world.
