Pougouli Books Near Completion
By Tom Castor | February 9, 2021 | News
Pougouli (Pwe) is the language spoken by the Pwo people in West Central Burkina Faso. The Pwo people are traditionally Muslim and/or animists. The gospel has made inroads in the culture through the influence of the Burkinabe church.
The Pwo people live in an area of Burkina Faso that is largely populated by Dagaara people. As a result, many of the Pougouli (Pwo) people are fluent in Dagaara and use it for trade. A few years ago, CSM had our evangelical catechism, Simple Truths for the New Believer, translated into Dagaara and it was being used in Dagaara-speaking churches where some Pougouli believers attended. The team we work with in Burkina Faso came to believe that we needed to put the book into Pougouli (Pwe) so, many months ago, we began work on the Pougouli translation of the book. Although we were relatively confident of the capacity of the translators, the project returned to us with several problems. We started to look for capable translators to work on the revisions, but that took much longer than we imagined. We had started and re-stared the project at least three times since June of 2018. Then, when Covid-19 became an issue worldwide in early 2020, life in West Central Burkina Faso was significantly disrupted, so the translation editorial work was put on hold -again.
We are pleased to announce that, after more than two years, the Pougouli language translation is completed. Checking and field-testing is in process, and within weeks, the Pougouli translation should go to the printer.
Thank you to all of those who have given and prayed for the work of Clear and Simple Media. What we do requires researchers, writers, editors, translators, designers, printers, and distributors. But, sometimes, what our work requires most, is patience.
