Nouveau projet en Afrique de l’Ouest

After nearly two years of work with translation teams and web builders, the French version (www.unsimplemot.org) of the A Simple Word website went live in November. While we celebrate that event, there is still work to be done.

Many of our readers have already visited the English site (www.asimpleword.org) in the past. You will be aware that all of the content that we have developed is available there. In addition, we built a secondary site that includes fifteen courses, each course based on a portion of the web content. Those courses have been available in English for over a year. Soon (Feb.1, 2024), those courses will be available on the French site.

To prepare for that launch, we have begun to experiment with various ways to promote that site in West Africa. Although the use of social media is not as prevalent in West Africa as it is in North America, there are currently over two million Facebook users in Burkina Faso alone. So, we conducted a test. We created a Facebook post, in French, and targeted Ouagadougou (the capital of Burkina Faso) to see what kind of response we would receive. Since December 26, the post reached over 183,000 Facebook users. Engagements, including LIKES, shares, clicking the ad link to visit the website were just under 10,000 in the six days the post was boosted. And what we found most encouraging, there were over 260 people who responded with Instant Messages to ask more about the ad. We were able to respond, in French, to everyone who wrote us. Here is the initial response:

Nous sommes un groupe de personnes qui suivent Jésus. Nous essayons rrd’aider d’autres personnes qui veulent aussi suivre Jésus. Nous avons créé le site web www.unsimplemot.org pour aider les gens à en savoir plus.les gens à en savoir

(We are a group of people who follow Jesus. We’re trying to help other people who also want to follow Jesus too. We have created the www.unsimplemot.org website to help people find out more).

What was especially interesting was that over 60% of the people who wrote IM messages were male between the ages of 18 and 34.

Since we are only one month away from the launch of the French courses site, we ask you to pray.

Pray for those with whom were able to connect via social media.

Pray for those who have been visiting the home site since its launch in November.

Pray for the final field testing of the French courses site.

Pray that we will be able to build an effective team of “first responders” in W. Africa.
