Maithili translation project for India/Nepal

Clear and Simple Media announced this week that they will be initiating a translation project in the Maithili language for the Bihar province of India and southern Nepal. Maithili is spoken by  34.7 million people in India and is one of India’s 22 official languages. It is widely used in both rural and urban communities. Maithili is used in education, mass media, such as magazines, newspapers, radio, and television.

Maithili is also spoken by 2.8 million people in Nepal. It is the second most widely used languages in Nepal (after Nepali) and is spoken by both high and low castes. Maithili is spoken in informal situations in Nepal, but is also used in education and in the mass media.

Final translation proofs should be completed by November 10.
