Jane’s Story

By Lee Castor | May 12, 2024 |

We have several churches that use our material to introduce Christ and disciple new believers. The following is an account that we received from a pastor in Canada*. This is Jane‘s (name is changed) story.

I first met Jane one Sunday morning at the Baptism Class I was leading after church. It was clear, early on in the class, that Jane was in the beginning stages of being open to the possibility of God and wanted to learn more about Jesus.  She had been interested in learning more ever since coming to the baptism service of a friend and in witnessing her friend’s baptism found herself crying and didn’t know why.  In sharing this story with me she wanted to know if something was wrong with her for crying at the baptism of her friend.  I told her that what she was experiencing was the Holy Spirit speaking to her and that it was okay, it was natural to respond in this way.

Jane knew that there was something more going on around her- that God was at work in her life. She had so many questions about God, faith, creation and many other topics.  That Baptism class was supposed to be one session long but over the next 5 -6 weeks I met with Jane several times to try and help her navigate both her questions and her heart.  One of the resources that I had handy was Tom Castor’s book, Simple Answers to not so Simple Questions.  I thought that it would be helpful for Jane and could answer some of the questions she had in between the times we would meet.  I was able to get her a copy of the book after our second session.

To my great surprise, at our third session, she had not only read the book in its entirety, but had written her own thoughts and questions on almost every page.

It was clear that this was a powerful tool that God was using to help answer her questions. To my great surprise, at our third session, she had not only read the book in its entirety, but had written her own thoughts and questions on almost every page. It was clear that this was a powerful tool that God was using to help answer her questions.

At the end of our sessions, Jane did come to accept Jesus as her Lord and Saviour which was so exciting to witness.  She still has many questions about her new found faith that she struggles with so if you are reading this story please pray for Jane that she would continue to grow in her understanding of God’s love for her and that He would be her peace!

Please continue to pray that there will be hundreds of other “Jane” stories in dozens of places around the world.
