Hurricane Matthew Hits Haiti

By Tom Castor | October 4, 2016 |

Early this morning, Hurricane Matthew made landfall in Haiti.

The hurricane hit Haiti’s southwestern coast on Tuesday with strong winds, driving rain and storm surge of up to 5 metres.  Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the Caribbean whose citizens have not yet fully recovered from the severe earthquake in 2010. The country is not well equipped to deal with the damage that 150 km winds and 100 cm of rain will cause. Many of the homes will be threatened by the flooding and mudslides that accompany such a storm.

Pray for the people in Haiti. Pray that the church will have courage and extend mercy to those in need. Pray for the many missionaries, aid workers, and short-term teams that are now in the country.
