A Friend and a Purposeful Holiday
When we explain our ministry, we often use this phrase. “We write books, we tell stories, in simple English.” The books are about the Bible. The stories are from the Bible, but those nine words do provide a memorable way to explain Clear and Simple Media. We do this because our target audience is a person who is new to English who has no previous exposure to the Bible. Specifically, we wrote our first book to help grass-roots church planters to disciple new believers.
That said, we have been quite surprised at just how people have used the books for even broader purposes. A friend of ours took a holiday and decided to take a few of our books with her. I’ll let her tell you the story.
On my trip to Cuba this winter I took along about 10 Simple Truth books in Spanish. I had never given out any literature there before, but felt God was directing me to do it. I prayed that God would direct me to the people who would need it the most and very quickly I had an opportunity to give one to one of the staff who was delighted and told me she was a Christian and so was her helper (of course he got one also). Then I showed one to the lady at the towel station and asked her if she would like one -she eagerly took it and showed me where she had her Bible hidden under some towels. The few I had left I gave to the first lady to use as she wished, she was so pleased. I felt so great about being able to give God’s Word to those who have very poor access to it.
Hearing these stories is such a great encouragement to us. If you have one, we’d love to hear it.
