In 2016, we published our second book. The book is called Simple Stories. Here is a section of the introduction.

Of all of the stories ever told, the story that the Bible tells is the most important one of all. The story begins long before there was anything else. It tells how God made everything. It tells how he made the first man and woman. It tells how that first man and woman chose not to listen to God, and the world became a broken place. Then, it tells of all that God did to fix that broken world and the broken people in it. That story ends with a new beginning—a new heaven and a new earth. This book tells some of that story. The stories start at the beginning. They end with God’s new beginning. They do not tell the whole story. But they do tell some of the most important parts of it.

What follows are 32 simple stories that cover the story of the Bible, “from the beginning to the new beginning.” The book is the simplest book we have written, using fewer than 1200 English words. What has been interesting is how widely the book has been used. Simple Stories is in use in ministries to Differently-Abled Adults, Drug and Alcohol Addiction programs, Seniors in Memory Care Facilities, and by programs to teach English to new Canadians. To aid those teachers of English, we helped develop a Teacher’s Manual for the book. With all of this, Simple Stories is one of the few books we have not translated — until now.

As a part of the resources package we hope to deliver to the pastors in Guatemala, we decided to contact one of our most trusted translators to put the book into Spanish. Oddly, although the process should have been relatively straightforward, we hit several snags along the way. While not unprecedented (securing an accurate and trustworthy translation is not simple), it was unusual. Given the early-July deadline to have the books in hand, the delays added some serious pressure.

We thank God that the translation was completed, all of the graphic design glitches were solved, and we were able to order the books on June 13. Now, we are praying that the books arrive quickly.
